Permanent Residence
Express Entry: the fastest federal route to Canadian permanent residence
Express Entry manages three federal programs through one ranked pool, with category-based draws currently favouring healthcare, French-language, skilled trades and transport occupations, and an in-Canada route for Pakistanis already working here.
Overview
Express Entry is the points-based system IRCC uses to manage the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). You submit one profile, it is scored under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), and IRCC issues Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through regular draws and category-based draws.
Category-based draws exist to fill specific labour gaps, and they usually clear at a lower CRS score than general draws. Through 2026, active categories include healthcare and social services, French-language proficiency, skilled trades, transport, education, and several newer categories added in February 2026 for physicians, researchers, senior managers and skilled military recruits with Canadian experience.
Already working in Canada? CEC is usually fastest
If you are a Pakistani national currently on a valid Canadian work permit, for example a Post-Graduation Work Permit or an LMIA-supported permit, and you have at least 12 months of skilled work experience in Canada, the Canadian Experience Class is typically your quickest route to permanent residence. You can build and submit your profile while you continue working, without leaving the country.
How category draws change your odds
Category draws target specific occupation groups rather than ranking every candidate against each other. In recent 2026 draws, the healthcare and transport categories have cleared in the high 400s CRS range, and the French-language category, the largest by volume, has cleared even lower. These figures move with every draw, so we confirm current cutoffs and your live CRS score at your consultation.

Frequently Asked
Questions about Express Entry
What counts as a good CRS score right now?
General draws still clear in the high 400s to low 500s, but category draws for healthcare, trades, transport and French have consistently cleared lower through 2026. We check the live cutoff against your score at your consultation.
Do I need a job offer to enter the pool?
No. A valid job offer with an LMIA can add CRS points, but FSWP, CEC and FSTP candidates can enter and receive an ITA without one.
I have no Canadian experience, can I still qualify?
Yes, through the Federal Skilled Worker Program if you meet the points threshold on education, language, and foreign work experience.
