Overview

The Healthcare and Social Services category is one of Express Entry’s category-based selection streams, created to address specific labour shortages. To be considered, you need at least 12 months of qualifying healthcare experience, Canadian or foreign, within the last 3 years, and you must still independently qualify for the pool under FSWP, CEC or FSTP.

No job offer or LMIA is required to be selected through this category, which makes it one of the more accessible routes for healthcare professionals still working abroad.

Eligible occupations

The category covers a wide range of roles, including registered and psychiatric nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, medical laboratory technologists, psychologists, social workers, and veterinarians, among other regulated and allied health occupations.

Immigration is one track, licensing is another

Selection through this category gets you permanent residence; it does not automatically authorize you to practise. Most regulated health professions require separate provincial licensing before you can work in your field. We plan both tracks together from day one, so your immigration timeline and your licensing timeline move in parallel rather than one blocking the other.

How Vanguard helps
